I was just about to get cozy with our sun spot and catch up on my free library magazine reading. But, I hear my little boogie noodle up stairs wanting out of her crib.
I decided to come rant about it here for a couple of reasons. One, to remind everyone to check out your local library for free/inexpensive books and magazines. And two, b/c I’m itching to get on the computer, and have uninterrupted comp time to blog/check out my fave bloggers newest posts. Boohiss! LOL!
Thanks for listening to my rant. Off to get my little boogin.
1.The thrill of the hunt: It’s so fun to walk into a “year round garage sale” and see shelves overflowing with goodies, waiting for you to sift out that hidden gem.
2. Finding unique items: In most thrift stores its easy to find something from overseas, antiques, or a rare valuable you can’t find in a store.
3. Saving a ton of money: Great stuff at a significantly reduced price who doesn’t love that factoid!
4. Putting money back into your local economy and into the hands of non-profit organizations: Most thrift stores are run by small business owners, churches; or, they are run by non-profits with missions to promote the welfare of others.
5. Thrifting is green: Everything is being recycled.
So, if nothing else, go thrifting to do your part in saving the earth
Here’s my BEAUTIFUL antiquelamp all prettied up!!!
And here’s her before shot again for reference
It looks black; but I went with an oil rubbed bronze metallic spray paint from Rustoleum. It turned out so super awesome; I’m thrilled!! And, I still can’t get over the mere fact I paid only $0.80 cents for it. Aaahhh! I love thrifting!!!
I joined the party with this post

Just bought a bunch of goodies at The Po (Home Depot that is). I bought the sand paper for my table, spray primer and paint for my lamp, and primer and brushes for my interior trim. A fellow blogger who loves molding (I’d mention her name/blog here, but I’m still new to the bloggy world, not sure of the proper etiquette, do I ask her first?) has inspired me to take the plunge and finally dazzle up our builders grade stuff. We have the cheapest, most uncool, orangey, fake wood, molding ever known to man, so this will be fun. I hope my realtor doesn’t mind the fact I’m undertaking this project while our house is on the market. I just feel while we are here, might as well enjoy the house. Heck, who knows when/if we’ll ever sell?
Thanks so much to everyone who entered; I was truly worried no one would-LOL! It was a lot of fun to have this giveaway so I’ll definitely be doing it again.
Lucky Beaver Winner: your number is assigned according to what number commenter you were on the original post. Congrats to our lucky winner. I’ll email you to see what prize you want, and get any other information I need
That’s a quote written by Louis-Ferdinand Celine… I couldn’t think of an interesting title on my own
BUT, I picked up this cute hurricane lamp with the glass shade today for a mere $0.80 cents! I really like my new lamp (especially the switch) here’s a close up….
Looks like a cute little key……
Here we go; just call me Brick Tamland
LOL! Love that movie!
Back to my lamp, I’m going to spray paint the metal (primer first) then an oil rubbed bronze color. The antique brass isn’t working for me….. I’d actually run out and have this project done in an hour but no time of course….. It’s a good thing I don’t have a nanny, my kiddies would see me running spontaneous errands all day, everyday, and forget who I was-LOL!
So many fun projects, so little time I guess this is another good thing. A life without hobbies isn’t really living now is it?
I was looking through my family pics and it dawned on me I’ve never written about my hubbinator (Ray). He’s the love of my life, my bestfriend, a FANTASTIC daddy bird; and he’s just all around wonderful. Sure he doesn’t always hear what I say, never seems to want to give me foot massages anymore; but, nonetheless I love him more today then the day we married. He loves me for me, and allows me to be the dorkage I am.
The thing I most love about him though, is his love for God. He’s a man who doesn’t only say he loves God, but he actually lives his love for God out loud. That’s what makes him ultra amazing ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥
Once again, the Goodwill was good to me. I came across this vintage, antique, fold out top, sewing machine table with the sewing machine still in it. However, I gave the sewing machine away, in the check out line, to the lady behind, me who was a quilter and collected them. Her eyes lit up and her hubby was beside himself with excitement. I now know why after looking it up on Ebay. (Oh man, I’m not gonna even go there, it doesn’t matter and it’s gone.) The table is in great condition, solid wood, and was obviously well cared for. I love the detail, especially the little pulls. Anyway, I’m very excited about this table b/c I saw one of my fellow bloggers redo an antique sewing machine table and hers looked amazing. Now I just have to remember who it was so I can go see what she did. LOL! I’m not sure what direction I’m going to go with this one. Should I keep it wood, paint it, age it, not sure?? I’ll update once I complete the project. I’m almost nervous to even publish this post for fear a year from now I won’t have decided how I’m going to clean it up. HA! LOL!
For the past couple of months my family and I have been into homemade french fries. With this new found love for taters, I had a dilemma on my hands. How can/should I store those little buggers? Do they go in the fridge, do they not? Should I put them in a cabinet; should I keep them out? Heck, I didn’t know what to do. So, I’d pile them on the counter next to the fridge. They were getting in the way, falling onto the floor, rolling under the high chair only later to be discovered half chewed up in the dog’s bed. Those little starchy creations were becoming a major pain in my butt. Theeen!!!It dawned on me after I dropped something out of my cabinet and all of my potatoes cascaded to the floor for the millionth time.
I’d seen the perfect potato storage option; and I had to have it!!!!!
I’d been eyeing this super cute, vase shaped, wire, basket at The Salvation Army for the past couple of weeks. Every time I saw it, I thought shucks, I really want that wire, basket vase thingy,” but what will I do with it? I’d even walked around the store with it on several visits, but in the end decided to put it back….. (in the backof the lowest shelf that is, just in case, you never know). After processing the overwhelming sense of thrifters regret,
(Thrifters Regret – the sensation of panic a thrifter experiences when they’ve realized they may have past up a once in a life time deal on an amazing find),
I quickly gathered up my children, and drove straight over to The Army. There it was! Right where I’d hidden it put it last.
$3.00 later I was one happy, joy filled, momma bird with the worlds cutest potato storage idea.
